Dear Cyberpunks, for once, the future is not only dark and dreary, but peppered with a shiny Cyberpunk 2077 release next week. Nevertheless, from now on you should step cautiously on the Internet: The game is already played by a large number of fans, in a rather old and incomplete version.
It sounds like a joke and yet it's true: the corporation and retailer BestBuy got a load a few days ago Collector's editions of Cyberpunk 2077 shipped to buyers, a whole week before the release. The physical copies are already playable, but there is the "Old" version of the gamethat runs without the massive Day-1 patch. After all, it won't go online until the official release date on December 10th.
Watch out: Cyberpunk 2077 spoilers are in circulation
What does this mean for us? Quite simply, game spoilers can now flood the internet, so be on your guard. We got in touch with CD Projekt Red regarding the matter and the studio has confirmed that the version currently being played is not the “final” version of the game: it is only complete when you have the Day 1 patch downloaded for release.
If you read any bugs in the game on any pages, it is because Cyberpunk 2077 is being played without the patch. In the course of this, CD Projekt Red also pointed out on Twitter that they ask all streamers and players to not to publish gameplay before release:
They can stop completely spoiler and popping up Gameplay videos but certainly not. In the meantime, it is still pending whether there will be any legal consequences for the retailer concerned: Normally, of course, online shops also have to adhere to embargoes; if they break the contracts, this rarely goes unpunished.
You don’t have to grieve because you didn’t receive an “advance” edition of Cyberpunk 2077. As already indicated, this is not a final version, and I assume that most of you will be happy to wait another week to really enjoy the game.
