At the beginning of the week Microsoft surprised with the announcement that ZeniMax Media (Bethesda) is now part of Xbox Game Studios. Now it looks like the company could make further acquisitions of this size in the future. According to CEO Satya Nadella, Microsoft always keeps an eye on things like this whenever the opportunity arises. Nadella did not want to reveal any further details.
Microsoft is probably not done yet when it comes to acquisitions of additional studios. After acquiring ZeniMax Media for $ 7.5 billion, CEO Satya Nadella hinted in an interview that Microsoft would continue to bring new teams to Xbox Game Studios. Nadella always has the Xbox Game Pass in the back of her mind, which is made even more attractive for customers through acquisitions such as Bethesda. With the deal on Monday, upcoming games such as Starfield or The Elder Scrolls 6 will land right at launch in Xbox Game Pass.
The question now arises as to which publishers and studios could be on Microsoft's list. It was only in July that there were reports that the company was interested in acquiring Warner Bros. Interactive. AT&T would have sold well-known studios such as Rocksteady, WB Montreal and NetherRealm Studios for 4 billion US dollars. In the end, Microsoft (for the time being only) decided on ZeniMax Media.
Has Pandora's box been opened?
Before the takeover of Bethesda, deals of this size were hard to imagine. Now fans are also speculating about the impact this deal could have on the future of the industry. In addition, other companies such as Sony, Google, Amazon or Facebook can also carry out such acquisitions. Fans are particularly concerned that well-known game series will only appear exclusively on one platform. We will of course keep you up to date.
