Netflix is currently cheaper because of a changed tax rate

from Susanne Braun
As part of the corona pandemic, the German government has temporarily approved tax reductions that will take effect from July 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. Those responsible at Netflix pass on this tax reduction to their customers, which is why the subscription to the streaming service is currently cheaper.

The subscribers to the streaming service Netflix all received a joyful email from Netflix just in time for the temporary tax reductions to come into force in Germany. Because the service passes the discount on to customers and this ensures that, for example, the premium subscription from July 1, 2020 and until December 31, 2020 will no longer cost EUR 15.99, but EUR 15.59 – at least one Savings of 40 cents. The standard subscription instead of 11.99 euros per month currently only costs 11.69 euros and the basic subscription with Netflix currently costs only 7.78 euros instead of 7.99 euros.

The temporary tax cuts were adopted by the federal government to boost the economy, which has suffered from the corona pandemic constraints – and is still suffering. The economic stimulus package decided in this way provides that sales tax will be reduced in the second half of 2020: by December 31, 2020, the regular tax rate will drop from 19 percent to 16 percent and the reduced tax rate from 7 percent to 5 percent. Whether service providers and retailers these tax breaks pass on, of course, is at the respective discretion. The Netflix managers are definitely sending a positive signal in this regard.
