The story ended with Kingdom Hearts 3, but that doesn't mean that the series is over. Apparently, Square Enix already has plans for another game, but it is still a long way from being released.
A new Kingdom Hearts is still a long way off
Asked in an interview about the possibility of a new Kingdom Hearts game for PS5 and Xbox Series X, Square Enix 'Tetsuya Nomura stated that another part in the main series would probably only appear at the end of the new generation of consoles. Like Kingdom Hearts 3 (buy now € 14.10 ) was also only released towards the end of the current generation. Nomura wants such a new Kingdom Hearts to be "breathtaking". The designer also explains that there is still no official announcement for such a game or for plans that something like this should be developed.
Tetsuya Nomura says that with every new game in the action RPG series, he has to have a good idea of what the next chapter should look like and what it will be about. That was the case with the transition from Kingdom Hearts 1 and its successor Chains of Memories. And so it should be with a possible fourth part in the main series. As it sounds, there are currently no concrete plans for a "Kingdom Hearts 4" at Square Enix, although there may be a few thoughts about continuing the series.
Kingdom Hearts fans will have to wait a long time before the next chapter appears. Since a generation of consoles usually exists for around seven years, we can also expect such a waiting period.
