It has already been announced that Electronic Arts will continue to develop games for Star Wars, although Ubisoft is also working on an open-world title. And we could even see an EA game in 2021.
A little shooter from EA
The game is rumored to have been in the works for about two years and is based on Star Wars: Squadrons in size. But that doesn't mean we'll get another flight-action sim. Instead, it is probably a shooter, although it is not clear whether it is a first-person shooter or an action game with a third-person perspective. The release should take place in the 4th quarter of 2021 and for all major platforms except the Nintendo Switch. We will then see the game on PC, PS4 / PS5 and Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S accordingly – if the rumor is true. The Unreal Engine 4 is used, which is a bit unusual. Electronic Arts usually uses the in-house Frostbite engine – the exception here was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, as development began with the Unreal Engine 4 before EA bought the Respawn studio.
Of course, it cannot be said whether there is anything to this rumor as long as EA does not officially announce the game. Therefore, all of this should be treated with caution. A Star Wars shooter would of course be very interesting. A Jedi Knight-themed game would be appreciated by fans. However, expectations should not be set too high as this is supposedly a smaller project. If it actually appears in 2021, then the announcement shouldn't be long in coming.
