Nintendo probably never imagined that Nook Miles tickets in Animal Crossing: New Horizons would develop into a new currency. These are currently particularly popular and are even being sold in bulk for real money.
If you don't know yet, the Nook Miles tickets are needed to visit mysterious, deserted islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The tickets can be bought in-game for Nook miles. However, these are not microtransactions, because the tickets are developed in the game for simple things like planting flowers, fishing and cutting trees, and you also get them after you have reached certain milestones.
However, this is not the only way to issue tickets. In addition to visiting other islands, you also get a limited number of items and recipes. In the past few weeks, however, the Nook Miles tickets have become increasingly popular and are even sold in bulk for real money. Why is that?

NMT craze: The community has a guess
On various community sites and Discord servers are noisy eurogamer numerous trade in Nook Miles tickets. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the players seem to have built up an opportunity for microtransactions, although this shouldn't actually exist.
The reasons can be many, but some from the community assume that players are looking for special villagers. For example, some people like cat Raymond or Audie and absolutely want them as residents on their own island.
