It's been 25 years since Michael Jordan saved the world with Bugs Bunny – this year Space Jam 2 is starring LeBron James. Now there are the first pictures of Looney Tunes & Co as well as story details.

Space Jam 2: A New Legacy is slated for release this July, but apart from a few snippets in an HBO trailer, we haven't seen much of Bugs Bunny & Co. yet. They don't get help from Michael Jordan in the sequel, but from the current basketball star LeBron James. But it's not just the main human role that has changed, as new images released by Entertainment Weekly show.

Bugs Bunny and his friends can now be admired in a high-gloss 3D look, with the style of the original being retained. According to the director Malcolm D. Lee, Lola Bunny got a 2021 design – because the portrayal of the rabbit lady with hot pants and a crop top was too sexist for him.

What is Space Jam 2 about?

While the original 90s Space Jam was about the Looney Tunes becoming slaves in an extraterrestrial amusement park, Space Jam 2 loses a lot of the "Space" in the name. LeBron James 'son gets sucked into Warner Bros' digital "server verse", lured by a ferocious AI (played by Don Cheadles) keen on LeBron's social media followers.

Accordingly, the basketball player has to hop into the Warners Vault and will explore different film worlds together with the Looney Tunes – wild examples such as Mad Max, Casablanca, Matrix or Wonder Woman are named.
