Korthia, the secret city in the maw of WoW Shadowlands, is a treasure trove of knowledge and in order to claim these innumerable secrets of the creators for himself, the dungeon master reaches for the ultimate power in patch 9.1 and pulls the island with the city to the edge of his dark Rich. Tied to the throat, the guardians of Korthia follow providence and open the gates to the mystical city for our heroes. But Korthia is not the only battlefield on which we fight our fight against the jailer. A little off the beaten track, many other stories play out in the throat that are important for the future story of World of Warcraft.

The hoard of the creators

The archivist’s code is a new faction that comes into play with Patch 9.1: Chains of Dominion. This is a small, tight-knit group of mediators who dedicate their lives fully to researching the relics of the Shadowlands. After the chaos wrought by the jailer and the diabolical Nathrezim in Korthia, the archivists are trying to salvage the countless relics that are now scattered across the floating island. Of course, the intermediaries are happy to take the help of our heroes in collecting.

Incurable whispers

In their search for the said relics, the players discovered an interesting artifact on the test server for Patch 9.1 – Everliving Statuete (Eternal statuette). The inconspicuous gem belongs to the third relic set for the quest series Missing parts. You can get the item from the rare enemy named Yarxhov the Looter in the Chamber of Knowledge. To get into the chamber you need Repair kit for teleporters (You can find more about the archivist’s code in this article). In contrast to other relics, the statuette surrounds a dark aura. Because as soon as our heroes capture the item, we get a strange debuff – Whispers of the Eternal. As long as the spell is active, the relic turns to us with all sorts of whispers. We have freely translated the whisper of the statuette from the test server for you at this point:

  • Hope. Treason. Victim. Faces change. The story doesn’t.
  • A sleeping flame rests on the sixth tree, hidden from the daylight.
  • So many secrets, so little time to share.
  • A city of secrets. A story full of lies.
  • How many voices do you hear How many are real?
  • The seventh desires what the six hold on to. The equilibrium fluctuates. Everything is being reversed.

Six new prophecies

The whole thing sounds like new prophecies from the mouths of the Void Princes. As with Il’gynoth before, there is a lot that can be interpreted into these words. This time, however, we are dealing with special prophecies about the Shadowlands.

  • Hope. Treason. Victim. Faces change. The story doesn’t.

The first whisper is about Providence, a kind of destiny that the first left for their servants in Oribos and Korthia. Indeed, the creators foresaw the destruction of their order and created something that will rebalance the universe after the great cosmic catastrophe. Presumably it is Azeroth, the sleeping titan and her soul connection to our heroes.

  • A sleeping flame rests on the sixth tree, hidden from the daylight.

With six trees it could be the six great cosmic domains. Who said sleeping flame is is not an easy puzzle, after all, theoretically almost any creature could be. Tree and the topic of sleep, however, sounds a lot like the Ardenwald and the large tree associated with the emerald dream and the domain of life. Perhaps an important protagonist in the story of the Shadowlands has not yet awakened and we will learn more about him / her later. Remember that the word flame is not all positive. It could be a flame of hope, but it could also mean destruction.

  • So many secrets, so little time to share.
  • A city of secrets. A story full of lies.

The many secrets are arguably the Creator’s knowledge hidden in the innumerable libraries of Korthia. We will have little time to fully explore Korthia. That could mean that the city and its secrets will play an important role in World of Warcraft for an extended period of time. The exciting point about this story is that the Nathrezim have been up to mischief in Korthia for a long time. This means that they have had plenty of time to pepper the writings of the First with all kinds of lies. So we can never be sure whether the information we find is true or a perfidious and well-placed lie.

  • How many voices do you hear How many are real?

The many voices are the myriad of truths that the Void Lords are said to utter. Alleria Windläufer described the voices of the Void Lords in Legion as a chaotic choir that bundles umpteen prophecies into a gruesome cacophony. The choir drives a simple mortal insane quickly, so most fear the overwhelming power of the void and fight it with all their might. The interesting thing about these words, however, is that there are many voices that do not seem to be among the Void Lords. These voices are those of the Dread Lords who infiltrated the domain of the void ages ago. You have supplemented many prophecies of the void with your own prophecies or even rewrote them. The same rule applies here as in the case of the Korthia records. No one can say which voice speaks the truth and which belongs to the Nathrezim.

  • The seventh desires what the six hold on to. The equilibrium fluctuates. Everything is being reversed.

The last words most likely speak about the broken pantheon of the Eternals and the bearers of the keys to the mysteries of the creators. In patch 9.1 we learn that Zovaal (that’s the real name of the jailer) wanted to claim the Seals of the Eternals. For this crime, the first finally punished him with exile. If you add up the Eternals, then the pantheon consists of Denathrius, the Winter Queen, the Archon, the Primus, Zovaal and Elune. Since Zovaal was banished to the gullet, the judge took his place as a representative. On the subject of Elune: Yes, Elune is the sister of the Winter Queen and therefore technically one of the Eternals. We do not know what happened to her seal (it is rumored that the souls of the kaldorei have something to do with Elune’s seal, and that is why Sylvanas attacked Teldrassil). So one can interpret the prophecy in such a way that Zovaal is the said seventh person who seeks the power of his siblings.

The number six could also refer to the six major domains (light, life, order, emptiness, death and decay, chaos). It is no great secret that the jailer seeks to rule the whole universe. Should Zovaal solve the great riddle of the creators, then literally all cosmic doors are open to him.

The echo from the void

In conclusion, the statuette itself is an interesting item. In the game, the statuette appears as a humanoid, faceless creature wrapped in robes. We already know this figure – as the figures that adorn the pillars of the Dark Portal. These statues were also seen during the Shadow Council ritual in Shadowmoon Valley. Later these characters appeared wherever the forces of the void had their fingers in the game. It is possible that it is a stylized representation of the legendary void lords. Or they serve as a kind of mouthpiece through which they can speak to mortals. At the end of the miniquest, the archivist Roh-Suir warns us again not to trust the whispering of the statuette.

“I trust you didn’t listen to anything that little monster said. I heard that thing was just spreading lies.”

If you then take a closer look at the figure, the following text appears:

Now the big round of speculation starts in the WoW community. Of course we want to be there with you. Let us know your fan theories about the Whisper of the Relic in the comments. We are also curious about the significance of the new prophecies from Korthia.
