Buyers of the Oculus Quest 2 are currently reporting more problems with the Facebook login, which has now become mandatory for new customers. Existing users will not have to link their Facebook and Oculus accounts until early 2023. However, until the problems are resolved, affected players cannot use their VR glasses.
On Tuesday, Facebook released the successor to the VR headset with the Oculus Quest 2. There was already a lot of criticism in advance because new users will have to link their Facebook profile in order to be able to use the VR glasses at all. For this reason, the Oculus Quest 2 cannot even be bought in Germany at the moment. According to reports at the time, data protection problems are said to be behind the sales ban. There is no date for Germany yet.
Shortly after the launch in other countries, several users are now complaining about difficulties with the Facebook login. Accordingly, players who have created a fresh Facebook account cannot establish a link with the VR headset. Instead, you will be asked for proof of identity with a photo, which must be checked by a Facebook employee. This process could take several weeks. During this time, the Oculus Quest 2 cannot be used.
If the test is rejected, the account can no longer be used. The reactivation of old Facebook profiles is also said to cause difficulties in some cases. The company has already made a statement and announced that only a very small part is affected by this problem. Users should contact Oculus support to find a solution. Incidentally, existing Oculus customers have until the beginning of 2023 to connect their Facebook profile to their Oculus account.
