While the processors at AMD seem to be running smoothly, the current graphics cards are causing problems. Messages from users who cannot use their new navigation GPU properly are piling up on the net. The culprit is quickly found.
Driver problems with AMD: Users complain about new graphics cards
Since the end of 2019, many users of a new AMD graphics card have been complaining about problems. Sometimes the screen just stays black, the picture flickers, games crash – and even severe drops in performance due to a sudden drop in the clock rate are not uncommon. Anyone looking at that AMD subreddit will notice that these are no longer just individual cases.
But why is that? It looks like this is a homemade problem, like Wccftech reported. The current drivers for AMD's graphics cards are held responsible for the problems. Especially users of the new navigation graphics cards seem to be plagued by problems. These include the following models:
- AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
- AMD Radeon RX 5700
- AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT
- AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB
- AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 4 GB
AMD's latest graphics card, the RX 5600 XT, also seems to be affected by the problems:
AMD realizes: Chip manufacturers are working on a solution – you can do that until then
AMD also recognizes that the current drivers are causing problems, and confirms this in one official blog post, At the same time, however, it is recorded that numerous problems have now been solved. The errors mentioned at the beginning still occur for some users.
If you still have problems after the update, AMD should try to completely reinstall the drivers. To do this, check the box under "Reset to factory settings" under the "Additional option" tab during installation:
Alternatively, the program DDU can be used to uninstall the existing driver.
Although the new navigation graphics cards are struggling with driver problems, they are currently very popular:
