Phase 4 catapults Classic to a new level of fun

WoW Classic – with a view to the entire life cycle – reached an important milestone this week and thus also a new high point in terms of fun for me. We owe this highlight, of course, to the various innovations in content phase 4: that is Zul'Gurub 20-player raid, the new Tasks in the high-level zone of Silithus as well as the four Nightmare kites Taerar, Ysondre, Lethon and Smarisswhich, with the content already in the game, result in a moody mix of activities.

Sure, in theory there was a lot to do in Azeroth even before phase 4 – especially if you have fun twinking, wanting to increase your reputation with one of the more elaborate factions or if you are keen on the highest ranks in PvP. For many players, everyday life looked like this: On one or two chilled evenings a week, clean up the raid instances Onyxia's Hoard, Molten Core and Blackwing Lair, and farm a bit in between, wave a little, play a little PvP and, if necessary, play the guild Help relatives.

Don't get me wrong: I have had a lot of fun with this mixture in the past weeks and months. The Mountain of Joy in games that have so far been neglected in spite of a few long weekends is my witness. But now I can expand these activities even more, namely every three days by the very entertaining raid Zul'Gurub, in which it can also be farmed solo or in small groups and which, thanks to the low level of difficulty, is also very good for spontaneously put together PUG groups is feasible. Add to that the questing and reputation gathering in Silithus, with the summons to the windstones, as well as the hunt for the nightmare dragons (with six potential world boss spawns now there is a better chance of catching one with the guild).

And best of all: All of these challenges can best be tackled with the guild – together and achieving goals together, the greatest strength of Classic, will be further expanded in phase 4. This increases the fun, the nights become much longer again, the mood in the Discord and in the guild chat is great – Classic may still have its rough edges, but in my view the whole package wipes the ground with many other online role-playing games on the market.

WoW Classic: Zul'Gurub may be too easy, but it's still a lot of fun cleaning the 20 player raid with the guild every few days.

The future will be exciting, but also more demanding

When I go to the upcoming content from WoW Classic look, I have good and bad news for you. First the good news: with the opening of Ahn'Qiraj, the two associated raid instances and Naxxramas, there are still some highlights waiting for us, which I'm personally really looking forward to and which will certainly be noticeably more difficult than the previous challenges.

Now the bad news: The upcoming content is very time-consuming and will not fit into the existing activities as well as it was the case with phase 4. In the current two raid days, guilds will have to set priorities and remove raid instances from the weekly program, or they will increase the number of raid days per week. In addition, farming consumables and gold becomes more important due to the higher level of difficulty, leaving less time for other things.

Don't get me wrong again: I'm looking forward to phases 5 and 6, and I'm already preparing for them (as far as possible). I just want to say that the current mix of Phase 4 content is, in my view, more balanced and has something to offer for every type of player, without overwhelming or degenerating into work. I will definitely enjoy the next few weeks in Azeroth, dance at as many weddings as possible and at the same time continue to prepare for my personal end goal: defeating C'Thun and Kel'Thuzad.
