Update from March 24, 2020:

Those responsible for Niantic canceled the upcoming raid week for Lugia in Pokémon Go and extended the raid event for Kobalium. You will meet the Knight of Righteousness in Tier 5 raids until March 31, 2020 at 10:00 p.m. Given the Corona crisis, however, you should feel obliged to do without the battle in the raids, which requires several coaches to be successful. In order to weaken the preparation curve of the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus ("flatten the curve"), the world population is encouraged to limit social contacts to the bare minimum, if possible.

Update from March 16, 2020:

Kobalium, one of the knights of honesty, is returning to Pokémon Go's Tier 5 raids for a raid week and of course cannot be challenged only in battle. No, if you defeat cobalt and face the catch challenge, it can be dazzling with luck and definitely learn the Sancto Blade attack. During the raid week from March 17, 2020 from 10:00 p.m. to March 23, 2020 until 10:00 p.m., cobalium can also appear in the Pokémon Go Combat League as a reward encounter. Since a few more 5th generation Pokémon have been released since Kobalium's last appearance in November 2019 and a lot has happened in attack balancing, we have below a brief overview of the useful counterattack in the guide to Kobalium. Original message from November 04, 2019: Joy among the raiders and collectors, because in Pokémon Go you can find the legendary Gen 5 Pokémon Cobalt from November 4th at 10 p.m. (i.e. in German-speaking countries in the early morning of November 5th). Rumor has it that the member of the Knights of Righteousness has a core of iron ore and belongs to the types steel and combat. In our counter-guide to Kobalium in Pokémon Go, we tell you everything you need to know about the raid boss and which pocket monsters you best use in battle.

Pokémon Go: Cobalt as a raid boss

As mentioned earlier, Cobalt is a legendary Steel and Combat Pokémon. This means that it takes more damage from attacks of the types fire, ground and combat – on the other hand, cobalt is particularly strong against pocket monsters of the types fairy, ice, rock, normal, unlight and steel. So you should primarily rely on your fire and battle Pokémon if you want to encounter Cobalt in the raid and want to emerge victorious from the fight.

Zen-headbutt (psycho) and metal claw (steel) are cobalt's possible immediate attacks, the charge attacks are similarly colorful: melee (fight), iron skull (steel) and stone edge (rock) are the possible attacks that attack your attackers. However, none of the attacks are particularly dangerous, even if Stone Edge is very effective against Fire Pokémon. However, since Stone Edge is an attack with a single loading bar, you should have no problems avoiding it. Zen headbutt, on the other hand, can put a little more strain on your battle Pokémon, but it shouldn't be a killer either.

You can tackle cobalt with a group of three to five high-level trainers, or with five or more low-level trainers. The legendary is boosted in snow and cloudy weather. The "worst" is the combination of metal claw and iron skull, because cobalt then benefits from the steel STAB bonus. You then need a few more vitalizers and potions. The following counters are suitable for the fight against cobalt:

  • Skelabra with fire top and heat kettle
  • Duck with fire tooth and heat kettle
  • Heatran with fire vortex and firestorm
  • Lohgock with counterattack and lean cannonade
  • Flammara with fire vortex and heat killer
  • Lavados with fire vortex and heat killer
  • Machomei with counter and balancing stroke
  • Groudon with clay shot and earthquake
  • Crackers with clay shot and earthquake

If you still have to fill up your team, you can also use the following months:

  • Hariyama with counter and balancing stroke
  • Kapilz with counter and balancing stroke
  • Dragoran with fire eddies and lean cannonade
  • Toxiquak with counter and balancing stroke
  • Arkani with fire tooth and flame throw
  • Tornupto with embers and tan gun

Pokémon Go: Catch Cobalt

If you have successfully completed the fight against cobalt and have the chance to put the pocket monster in your Poké Ball, then cobalt has level 20 at 100% IV values over 1,727 CP. If cobalt is boosted to level 25 in snow or cloudy weather, then it has 2,159 CP with perfect 100% IV values. We wish you much success in hunting!
