For the Lunar New Year event in Pokémon Go, the makers of Niantic have increased the likelihood of you becoming friends of happiness when exchanging gifts or the chance that a Pokémon will become a happiness Pokémon when exchanged. What are the chances?
The Lunar New Year event is active in Niantic's Pokémon Go game until February 3, 2020 at 10:00 p.m. This does not only mean that you will find more red Pokémon in the wild and with luck you can hatch the new pocket monster Flampion from the 7km friendship eggs. There are also cool friendship bonuses, which are activated and increase the chance that you become a lucky friend with a friendly trainer when you open your presents. There is also a better chance that you will get a lucky Pokémon when you trade with a friend. And the fans of TheSilphRoad, the Pokémon Go Theroycraft think tank, have found that the chance of swapping is actually a bit higher than normal.
Typically, there is a five percent chance that when you trade a Pokémon that you or your friend owned for less than a year, a Lucky Pokémon will get around. As part of the Lunar New Year event, this rate appears to have risen to around nine percent. "Our researchers exchanged 993 times, 94 of which were made into lucky Pokémon, which corresponds to an average rate of 9.5 percent," the people write TheSilphRoad on your website. However, this rate applies to the second 24 hours of the event, because the dates for the first 24 hours of the Lunar New Year told a different story – at that time, the chance of a lucky Pokémon through an exchange seemed unchanged. Apparently, the creators of Pokémon Go dreamed a bit and only unlocked the bonus a little later. After all, according to the authors of TheSilphRoad, the chance of a lucky Pokémon is about as high as at the Lunar New Year event in 2019.
