In the game data of Mafia 3, a map was recently discovered that belongs to the set spy game Project Rhapsody from Hangar 13. Why the team put the game world there is unclear. However, it is not the first time that such data has been found.
About two years ago, it became known that the Hangar 13 team was working on their own IP for the first time after the games of the Mafia series. Project Rhapsody (the game's working title) has since been discontinued. Incidentally, Berlin would have served as the setting for the 1980s. In Project Rhapsody you played a Russian Jew whose parents had been murdered in a Soviet labor camp. After being saved by the Americans, the protagonist would have joined a spy organization called Rhapsody. Throughout history, you would have completed missions with the hero, trying to find the people who murdered his parents. Jason Schreier also said in an article that appeared more than two years ago:
"You could have equipped a variety of gadgets, sneaked through Berlin, spied on enemies and completed all sorts of missions for the organization. There was also a spy car that you could use to cross the border checkpoint between East and West Germany. Helpful items was limited – depending on what you could have smuggled in the car. "
Project Rhapsody game world material has now surfaced on YouTube. Accordingly, the Hangar 13 team put some Project Rhapsody files in Mafia 3. You can find the video below.
Among other things, we see the famous Victory Column in Berlin in the video. The size of the game world can also be seen in a short flight over the city. So far, it is unclear whether the project will be revived in the near future. At the moment the makers are still working on the development of the upcoming Mafia remake.
Before Project Rhapsody started, the studio had to choose between starting with Mafia 4 or working on a completely new IP. These details came from a time Kotaku report forth. The release of the Mafia Trilogy may also bring Hangar 13 back to the fourth installment in the series. Publisher Take-Two plans to launch a total of 93 games over the next five years. One of them is the mentioned Mafia Remake, which will be released on August 28, 2020. The Definitive Editions of Mafia 2 and Mafia 3 are already available. These versions were also turned on a few screws.
