Sony releases the PS4 firmware 8.00 for download. The new system software is available today for all PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide. Unlike the previous updates, the latest update brings new features: The PS4 firmware 8.00 includes changes to the existing party and messaging functions, new avatars, updated parental controls and more. Initial preparations for the PS5 are also being made.

Sony released the PS4 firmware 8.00. The new system software is available for download worldwide for PlayStation 4 today. The publisher has the patch notes with the changes and innovations in one current blog entry presented. Unlike the previous updates, the PS4 will learn new functions with firmware 8.00. After the update, the party and messages should be more closely linked – the user interface will also change. "Both apps now use the same 'groups' of players for voice chats and message exchange in Party, instead of setting up different groups via the two apps," said Sony in the change log for the PlayStation 4 firmware 8.00.

This gives users the opportunity to set up a party chat or to send a message to the group they have previously communicated with via the PS4. This also applies to the PS5 once it hits the market in November. In addition, you will discover new player avatars after downloading the PS4 firmware 8.00. There are avatars from games like Bloodborne, Journey, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, The Last of Us Part 2 and The Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. There is also a simplified and more flexible child safety feature. The "Communication and User-Generated Content" setting combines the previous options "Communicating with other players" and "Viewing content created by other players".

"This covers both the area of communication and the sharing of user-generated content. This offers a simple setting that is more understandable for parents and more applicable to their children," commented Sony on the new PS4 firmware. Children can send a request to their parents to use communication features in certain games. Also new is an extended two-step verification during the activation process and the 2SV registration via the PS4, mobile devices and the Internet. Third-party authentication apps are now also supported.

From the 8.00 update, however, it is no longer possible to create events or to access existing events that were created by other users. Sony continues on PS4 Update 8.00: "We are also removing the ability to create private communities under the Community app on the PS4. If you are already part of private communities, you can still access them." At the same time as the update, the name of the PS4 Remote Play app will be changed to PS Remote Play. It also adds an option to connect to the PS5. In order to be able to use the function, you have to log into the PSN with a PS5. The new console will be released in Germany on November 19th.
