At the investor conference, Sony officials revealed that the price of the PlayStation 5 has not yet been revealed. Accordingly, the company wants to wait for the competition and its pricing. This most likely means Microsoft and the upcoming Xbox Series X. At the beginning of the current generation, Sony was able to undercut the Xbox One price by 100 euros.
CFO Hiroki Totoki of Sony spoke to investors about the price of the upcoming PlayStation 5. Accordingly, the company does not want to reveal the price of the console yet. It is also possible that the decision has not yet been made. The people in charge at Sony would like to wait and see what the competition does. When asked what factors play a role in pricing, Hiroki Totoki replied:
"First we have to look at labor costs and personnel costs. How much can we prepare – we take care of production and sales and we have to prepare the right amount. (…) It is very difficult to talk about a price because we compete in this market. Depending on the price, we may have to adjust the advertising (…) "
So it looks like Sony will be guided by the price of Microsoft and the Xbox Series X. For this reason, it will take some time before we learn anything about the cost of the console. At the very beginning of the current generation, Sony was able to offer the PlayStation 4 at launch for 100 euros cheaper than Microsoft's Xbox One. In general, not too many details about the PS5 are known yet. Recently there have been rumors that the unveiling could take place in February 2020. Brand protection for the console was recently registered in several countries.
