The video showed the new DualSense gamepad from all perspectives – and thus revealed another detail: There are no additional buttons on the back of the PlayStation 5 controller. Fans had recently speculated whether Sony might integrate back paddles on the PS5 pad. The information initially did not emerge from the previously published images. If you want additional buttons on the back, you probably have to use accessories. The PlayStation 5 is scheduled for release at the end of the year. Recently there were hints that the PS5 will probably be pre-ordered soon.

Fans had speculated repeatedly in the past few weeks whether the DualSense controller could possibly be equipped with back paddles. The footage previously released by Sony initially only showed the front of the PlayStation 5 gamepad.

If you want additional buttons on the back of the PS5 controller, you have to use additional accessories. Sony released the DualShock 4 just a few months ago Back button extension that is the PS4 controller expanded by two programmable back buttons. 16 actions can be assigned to the buttons. An integrated OLED display shows the assignment in real time. You can also create and save three different profiles.

Whether a similar accessory is planned for the DualSense controller is likely, but remains to be seen. In May, for example, a new patent emerged that described an optimized back button extension. Third-party controllers are an alternative. There is already a large selection of pro controllers with additional functions for PS4. Similar models are likely to follow for PS5.
