Celebrated by critics and by the fans anyway – the remake of Resident Evil 2 was a complete success for Capcom. The horror game recently passed even the original.
Most likely, it was the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake that prompted Capcom to reissue Resident Evil 3 as well. The remake of Resident Evil 2 proves that even old games will work again if they are technically adapted to the present day. Especially the change of the camera perspective from fixed positions to the view over the shoulder did RE 2 very well.
Take a look at the lovely bloody trailer:
That's what the players thought and the remake sold more often than the original from 1998. While the original RE2 comes to 4.96 million games sold, the remake cracked the 5 million in early December 2019.
The remake of Resident Evil 3 from the year 1999 has it even easier and must trump only 3.5 million games sold. Old-school horror with modern gameplay mechanics seems to be very popular with the fans of the Resident Evil games. How good and how successful the Resident Evil 3 remake will be on April 3, 2020 on the platforms PS4, Xbox One and PC.
What do you think of the long-lasting remake wave? Should studios rather try to develop new games, or is it good that younger generations will also enjoy old classics?
