The Psyonix team announced today that Rocket League will switch to a Free 2 Play model towards the end of summer. All previous buyers of the title can then look forward to tons of rewards for their loyalty. In addition, Rocket League will only be available through the Epic Games Store for newbies. Upcoming updates and features will continue to be available for the Steam version.
Almost five years after the release of Rocket League, the developers at Psyonix have now decided to switch to the Free 2 Play model. The car soccer title will be free for all players this summer. At the same time, the game for newbies will only be available exclusively in the Epic Games Store. There will also be a comprehensive update for the changeover, which will bring numerous new features to Rocket League. Here, too, the first details have already been revealed.
Among other things, your progress will soon be available on all platforms if you link your account with your Epic account. In addition to the inventory and progress in the Rocket Pass, the competitive rank will be the same everywhere. Psyonix is also planning changes for tournament and challenge modes.
The makers have also prepared some rewards for players who bought the title before the switch. These include the Faded Cosmos Boost, an upgrade for over 200 common items to legacy status, the Golden Cosmos Boost, the Dieci-Oro Wheels, the Huntress Player Banner and an "Est. 20XX" banner that marks the beginning of your Career in Rocket League shows. Even if the game will only be available in the Epic Games Store in the future, the Steam version will continue to be equipped with all updates. Psyonix has already promised this in the announcement. More details about the transition will be available in the next few weeks.
