Blizzard's online team fighting game Heroes of the Storm gets a new heroine: Mei! You can now play the Overwatch icon on the live servers. There is also a seasonal meta update, the start of the 3rd rated season and the Nexomania 2 event. You can read the patch notes below.

The next Heroes of the Storm patch with version number 2.51.0, which includes the new tank heroine Mei, was uploaded to the live servers this week. Season 3 has also started and there is an extensive revision for Mal'Ganis, a seasonal update of the Nexus anomaly and the Nexomania II event with great new skins for Li Li, Imperius and Mal'Ganis.

In the following you read the patch notes including the developer comments. Hotfixes are updates that are made on the server side without the need to download new data. Some of the changes below will take effect once Blizzard implements them, while others will only take effect after an announced realm restart. Please note that some problems cannot be solved without a client-side patch.

Nexus anomaly

Developer comment: First of all, thank you all for the huge amount of feedback on the anomaly cry for help. Thank you for taking the time to send us your reactions to it. You have helped us tremendously to make a decision for the future. About the changes: We decided to keep the turret targeting system with a few adjustments. In order to reward players for aggressive tactics early in the game, we remove the weakening effect for armoring the front towers. In addition, targeting will no longer favor heroes who attack other heroes within range of the towers. Forts, forts, and the citadel will continue to prefer to fire on enemy heroes that attack allied heroes. As a result, they are highlighted as particularly important buildings both in attack and in defense. We will continue to keep a close eye on these changes and, if necessary, further adapt these systems in the future.

  • New nexus anomaly – climatic phenomena

Strange weather anomalies have been observed everywhere in the Nexus – thunderstorms, snowstorms, and wafts of mist sweep across its realms. Mei comes just in time to investigate these strange new weather conditions. Our latest Nexus climate phenomena enriches the game with a variety of exciting weather effects. Treads on every battlefield every 4 minutes a certain type of weather phenomenon. The first of these begins with the start of the match. Every weather phenomenon lasts 2 minutes before the sky clears up again. This process is repeated until the end of the game periodically. While these weather phenomena are active, heroes get a unique buff, depending on the weather. These are the strengthening effects:

    • Thunderstorms
      • Meets regularly every 25–40 sec all heroes with lightning bolts that increase their movement speed and grant a lightning strike shield that deals damage to nearby enemies.
        • Increases the movement speed by 15%.
        • Suffer enemies nearby 46 Damage per second.
        • This buff lasts for 8 seconds.
    • Snow
      • Over time, heroes generate a small shield outside of combat.
        • Heroes generate 28 shield points every 0.5 seconds, up to a maximum of 224 (8 stacks in total).
        • The sign continues until it is destroyed or until the end of the snowfall.
    • Clouds of fog
      • Heroes are camouflaged if they stay in the bushes for a few seconds.
        • After 1.5 seconds in a bush, heroes are camouflaged.
        • The camouflage lasts for 40 seconds or until the hero attacks, takes damage, uses an ability, or the fog clears.

The weather will be active on the following battlefields:

    • Thunderstorms
      • Garden of Fears
      • Temple of Heaven
      • Warhead manufacture
      • Braxis terminus
      • Dragon gardens
      • Black Heart Bay
    • Snow
      • Cursed valley
      • Hell shrines
      • Volskaya manufacturing
      • Alteracpass
    • Clouds of fog
      • Queen Spider's burial chamber
      • Battlefield of Eternity
      • Hanamura Temple
      • Towers of calamity
    • A random weather pattern is used for all other battlegrounds and the heroic chaos variants.

  • K.I.
    • Bots now follow heroes up to a distance of 7 (was 5). This allows melee heroes that follow ranged heroes to attack targets at maximum range.
  • Preferred talents
    • In the advanced settings for hotkeys, a new hotkey called "Talent Quick Dial Favorite" (Ctrl + ^) has been added in the Hero Control section.
    • When the quick talent selection window is open, you can press this hotkey to select the talent you have selected as your favorite.
    • If the defined talent is deactivated or a future talent rank is selected, this hotkey has no effect.

  • Event Quests for Nexomania II
    • Nexomania II is the summer event of Heroes of the Storm and runs from the week of June 23 to the week of September 7.
    • One of the most popular events on the Nexomania Tour is the intermultiverse nexotastic championship: no rules, no mercy, only unrestrained and boundless chaos. This time, many fans expected Mal'gaucho Mal'Ganis to secure the title. The Merciless Scourge of Stratholme has left nothing but devastation on his side of the tournament tree and has frightened his opponents with a storm of demonic attacks. But on the other side of the tournament tree, a mysterious young fighter named La Gata de Batalla has proven to be a worthy challenger and on the way to the title match beat up opponents who were superior to her in some weight categories. The arena is sold out, Nexomania legend MC Tombstone heats up the crowd and the final fight begins shortly. Who are you going to cheer for?
  • Loot Chests
    • During Nexomania II, all are earned through progress or heroic chaos, and all loot chests bought for gold are Nexomania II chests. (Except hero-specific chests, they remain unchanged.) Most limited items can only be looted from the new Nexomania II chests. You can also get items from past summer events from these chests!
    • annotation: Loot chests earned before the start of this event will not be converted to Nexomania II loot chests.

Many seasonal items return to the collection and can be crafted and found in loot chests for a limited time!

With the upcoming 3rd season 2020, we want to make a few changes to the Storm League rewards.

  • Gold rewards will be removed
    • At the start of Season 3 of 2020, we will remove all gold rewards from the Storm League, end-of-season prices, and seasonal questlines. This change will also affect Season 2 rewards. The rewards for the seasonal questline are now structured as follows: a Nexomania II chest after 5 wins, a rare Nexomania II chest after 15 wins and an epic Nexomania II chest after 30 wins.
  • Mounts as Storm League rewards
    • Since the launch of the Storm League, we've received a lot of feedback about removing mount rewards for rated games. We have heard your feedback and are very happy to announce that the Storm League mounts will return at the beginning of the next season. The ultimate, final reward for the 2020 season 3 questline will be the Bengal Tiger. You will receive this mount as a reward for 50 victories in rated games.
    • In season 3, you don't have to wait until the end of the season to secure your well-deserved king tiger. You will receive it as soon as you have completed the four-part quest series of the Storm League. Players in all leagues and divisions can unlock this mount with 50 wins.
    • As always, we look forward to your feedback. Please let us know what you think, so that we can continue to adapt and develop the Storm League rewards in the future.

Developer comment: With these changes we want to make Mal'Ganis' talent tree overall more interesting and effective. We need to weaken his basic skills a bit to keep him at a similar level to other warriors, but we believe that these changes will make him more powerful overall. Players will also have more influence over Mal'Ganis’s style of play in terms of survivability and control over the rhythm of combat.
