Shazam! gets part 2 – even gives a cinema date

In times of expensive, spectacularly staged superhero blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame. Aquaman or the various other films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe or DC universe, there were two films this year that chose a different path. Of the controversial joker of course, the first film with an R rating to break the billion (sales in US dollars). But also the wonderfully down-to-earth, family-friendly and sometimes really funny comic book adaptation Shazam! (buy now for € 14.99)

Unlike Joker, Shazam! While not breaking box office records, global revenue of $ 364.47 million was at least solid. Solid enough, obviously, to justify a successor. Because exactly this was announced recently (via Entertainment Weekly). Here is all the information known so far:

• Shazam 2 is scheduled for release on April 1, 2022.
• Shazam actor Zachary Levi (Thor: Day of Decision) is again on board.
• At the same time, a film about Black Adam (with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the leading role) is being worked on, which depicts the arch villain of Shazam in the comic. Sooner or later the two characters will surely meet in a film.
