Is Spider-Man: Miles Morales a sequel to the PS4 action hit Marvel's Spider-Man or an addon that will be released for the PS5? There was confusion after the title was announced during the PS5 Reveal event. Developer Insomniac Games has now commented on the situation.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone game
Brian Horton, creative director at Insomniac Games explains that the developers wanted to love the character Miles Morales and tell his story. But it was clear that this had to happen in a separate game with a new story, new quests and new enemies.
The story of Spider-Man: Miles Morales takes place in New York, about a year after the events of Marvel's Spider-Man. It is winter, Christmas is just around the corner and while the city is shining in the beauty of snow, a war breaks out between an energy company and a criminal high-tech army – right in the middle of Harlem, home of Miles Morales.
The scope of Spider-Man: Miles Morales can be compared to that of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, according to Brian Horton: "We know that many of you want to know how big this game is. Our team at Insomniac has worked incredibly hard, to offer you a fantastic Miles Morales adventure since we finished developing Marvel's Spider-Man. With Miles, you’ll experience a complete story arc that is more like a game like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an important, warm, emotional, and essential experience for expanding the Marvel Spider-Man universe, and we hope it will be for you as well. "
The new game will show the power of the PS5 and wants to convince you with extremely short loading times, ray tracing, 3D audio and haptic feedback through the DualSense controller.
And what about Peter Parker? Brian Horton explains: "Many of you have wondered if Peter Parker is okay. Don't worry, we still have a lot to tell about Peter's story. But this game is all about Miles, an important part of our Spider-Man -Universe, and you certainly don't want to miss what's happening. "
This could be a small hint of a possible Marvel's Spider-Man 2 that we can look forward to in the future. But now at the end of the year the adventure of Spider-Man starts: Miles Morales on the PS5.
