Star Trek 2: The wrath of the Khan from 1982 is one of the best of the movies for many trekkers / trekkers. The producer of the film, Robert Sallin, has now surprisingly stated that he is currently writing a new screenplay for a possible feature film.

"I haven't written it in full yet, but I've written a lot of it. I have a concept for another Star Trek film that I discussed with Paramount – at least on the phone. This one is guaranteed to be different from everything what has been done in Star Trek so far, and it will be part of the canon, but they (the studio) don't want to talk about it until they see what Noah Hawley is doing. "
Noah Hawley was last asked to develop a new Star Trek movie. However, nothing has been heard about this for months. Hawley wanted to try something new that should be detached from the last films. It is therefore unclear whether the film is in the Kelvin timeline. Also Quentin Tarantino had an idea for a new Star Trek film, but said that he would probably withdraw from it.
"I'm really fascinated that Studio brought Noah Hawley into the Star Trek thing," said Robert Sallin. "I have absolute respect for his work. I find his work unique, engaging and fascinating. I think the guy is really a special talent. I am very excited to see what he will contribute to the franchise."
Regarding his own project, he explained: "If I'm not completely wrong here, my pitch will be very different. There is nothing like it yet and I think it will become part of the canon. That's all. I hope that one day it will be possible to have the meeting and let them say: Hey Bob, come on in, let's talk about it. " The film would be about new characters.
So Paramount definitely has plans for the future of Star Trek on the big screen. Which project we will see is still in the stars.
