Season 3 of the Star Trek series: Discovery takes us around 1,000 years into the future. But what does this future look like? And what happened to the Federation during that time? There is already some speculation based on information from the teasers and trailers.
With the third season, the series changes Star Trek: Discovery. There are already indications that we will return to the more carefree days of Star Trek and leave the dark, oppressive atmosphere of the first two seasons behind us. But that doesn't mean that there is no exciting story.
Attention! Here are potential spoilers!
At the end of the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, the spaceship traveled around 1,000 years into the future. In season 3 we will experience what awaits us in this future. This raises a question: what does the Federation look like at this time?
We know from previous teasers and trailers that the Federation is no longer as powerful as it was at the time of Captain Kirk or Captain Picard. This can be seen from the Federation flag, which was already visible. At the time of Jean-Luc Picard, the flag featured a large number of small and especially three large stars. These represent the people, the Vulcans and the Andorians.
In the trailer too Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 we see four small stars and two large ones on the flag. This indicates that the Federation has lost many members. Apparently the Andorians are one of them. Because a trailer shows how Michael Burnham and the new character book are attacked and hunted by Andorians.
During New York Comic Con, producer Alex Kurtzman also said, "We take expectations, alliances and enemies and all of these things and put them in a blender. We mix everything and see what will happen."
This indicates that conditions in the galaxy have changed. Michael Burnham is likely to encounter a federation that has lost its former glory, is not as powerful as it once was, and may therefore feel exposed to many threats. Star Trek may be turned upside down.
And that could be a symbol for the entire Star Trek: Discovery series. Michael Burnham is trying to rebuild a thrown-out federation that may have lost its former ideals. And so Season 3: Star Trek: Discovery tries to get back to where Star Trek used to be. A carefree science fiction series full of adventure and with a good dash of humor.
