Star Wars Episode 9 brings Disney the slightest win in the new trilogy
Of the three films in the new trilogy, Star Wars: Episode 9 brought in the smallest win for Disney. Even though it was the final of the Skywalker saga. Just under $ 627 million was spent on the film. The result, however, was not quite as catastrophic. Solo only: A Star Wars Story made losses.
At the end of last year, Disney and Lucasfilm completed the third and final trilogy of the Skywalker saga with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Even if the opinions of the fans about the new films go in all directions, Disney could celebrate success again at the box office. As it turns out, however, episode 9 brought the least profit of all three films in the new trilogy to the cash register of the mouse company. However, the numbers are not too bad.
According to a Deadline report, the budget for Star Wars: Episode 9 was around $ 275 million. Including all other costs, the film came to a total of $ 627 million. With grossing earnings of over $ 1 billion, Disney ended up with a $ 300 million profit. Episode 9 is even less than Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which brought a total of $ 319.6 million to the box office. The controversial spin-off of Solo: A Star Wars Story remains at the bottom with a loss of $ 77 million.
The other two films in the trilogy were even more profitable for Disney. Episode 7 made a profit of more than $ 780 million despite a total cost of $ 776.5 million. Episode 8 made a profit of $ 417.5 million. There are not many details about the future of Star Wars in the cinema yet. In December 2022, however, the next film and new characters are expected to continue.
