Star Wars: Episode 9 – Does Anakin Skywalker Appear in the Movie?
Anakin Skywalker is an important part of the Skywalker saga. But does he also play a role in Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker?
Anakin Skywalker is the chosen one. According to a prophecy of power, it is said to bring balance. He basically did that in Star Wars: Episode 6 – The Return of the Jedi. But he also dives into Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker on?
Danger! Spoilers follow here!
In the new film, Emperor Palpatine returns. So didn't Anakin get the balance? Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker doesn't really clarify exactly how Palpatine survived the fall into the shaft of the Second Death Star and the subsequent explosion of the Imperial Battle Station. In the film, Palpatine looks like a corpse that is only possessed by the spirit of the Emperor. Nevertheless, one could ask the question whether Anakin has not brought the balance of power after all and whether the Jedi Master may appear in the film.
We don't get to see him. But to hear. In the end, when Rey gathers her strength to destroy Palpatine once and for all, she hears the voices of many Jedi. Including that of Anakin Skywalker. He tells Rey to balance power as he once did. So he brought the balance, which was somehow disturbed again by Palpatine.
In addition to Anakin, Rey hears other voices from Jedi:
- Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson)
- Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness)
- Yoda (Frank Oz)
- Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson)
- Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein)
- Luminara Unduli (Olivia D'Abo)
- Aayla Secura (Jennifer Hale)
- Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.)
- Adi-Gallia (Angelique Perrin)
Anakin is also not seen in the final scene. We only see Luke Skywalker and Leia as power spirits on Tatooine watching Rey.
