With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Disney generated $ 374 million in global sales at the launch weekend. While this is a very successful theatrical release, compared to the two predecessors of the trilogy, episode 9 is behind. In Germany too, over 1.7 million people flocked to the cinema.
Since Wednesday Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to be seen in German cinemas. And the final of the Skywalker saga started on Friday in other countries around the world. Now the number of visitors and sales for the start weekend have been announced. What is particularly interesting is how Episode 9 performed compared to the two previous parts of the trilogy.
As of Sunday, the film had totaled $ 374 million worldwide. Of these, 176 million are in the United States and 198 million in the rest of the world. Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker to third place on the most successful start weekends in 2019. Only Avengers: Endgame with an impressive $ 1.2 billion and Captain Marvel with $ 456 million initially generated more revenue. However, Episode 9 also loses out against Episode 7 ($ 528 million) and Episode 8 ($ 450 million). In the end, Disney and Lucasfilm will also achieve great success at the box office with the finale of the trilogy.
Especially in Germany, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at least prevailed against Star Wars: The Last Jedi. A total of 1.7 million visitors were in the cinemas between Wednesday and Sunday. Episode 8 had 1.6 million visitors here – but had no early start and could only be seen from Thursday. Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to lead the new trilogy with 2.15 million visitors in Germany.
