Star Trek fans are experiencing golden times right now: CBS and Paramount are currently producing one Star Trek series after another – and soon there will be another new addition. A still nameless series made by Alex Kurtzman is to expand the portfolio around Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Series is intended to be aimed at younger audiences
Kurtzman, who is responsible as the producer for the Star Trek projects mentioned, spoke in an interview with the New York Times about his now sixth series in the SciFi universe. However, he was still covered in terms of the content of his latest work. All that is known so far is that the series should focus on the Starfleet Academy and target a younger audience.
When asked how much Star Trek it really needed, Kurtzman said: “I think we’re just getting started. There is so much more to do. […] If it were up to me, I’d push the boundaries a lot further than I think a lot of people would like. Maybe we can still get there. Marvel has proven that it works.“
David Stapf, President of CBS Studios, added:
“Anything goes as long as it fits the Star Trek ethos of inspiration, optimism, and the general idea that humanity is good. Comedy, animation for adults, animation for children – pick a genre and there is sure to be a Star Trek version of it.“
Which direction the new Star Trek series will take in relation to the genre remains to be seen. So we want to know from you: What would you like for a series about the Starfleet Academy? Write us your opinion in the comments!
