TESO: Story-DLC Markarth, Update 28, the final Indrik-Mount
You have surely noticed: yesterday evening there was the official one Preview stream for upcoming content from The Elder Scrolls Online. Of course, it was mainly about the finale of the year-long story "The Black Heart of Skyrim" in the fourth quarter. To Harrowstorm (Dungeon DLC), Greymoor (Chapter) and last Stonethorn (Dungeon DLC) the story DLC Markarth will lead us to the principality of Reach (the Reik), and thus again to an area that Skyrim veterans should know well.
We recently had the opportunity to talk to Creative Director Rich Lambert about the new content from TESO (buy now € 69.95 ) to speak, and wanted to know whether we will visit places known from the fifth part of the Elder Scrolls again in the zone despite the different time periods. According to Rich, that will be the case. Of course, the adventure takes us to the eponymous capital of Reach: Markarth. We enter the fortress of Unterstein and pass the settlement of Karthwasten. Nevertheless, there are supposed to be differences, especially outside the ancient Markarth Fortress, as the Reikmannen have only just claimed the zone for themselves. Oh, and it's back to Black Reach, where we enter the Arkthzand library, among other things!
In terms of size, the new zone should have comparable dimensions to the areas from the story DLCs Murkmire and Dragonhold. And like in the finale of the "Year of the Dragon" there will be a main quest series that will keep us busy for about ten hours, as well as the following finale of "The Black Heart of Skyrim" with further quests.
You can only tackle the last-mentioned finale this year when you have finished the main stories from Greymoor as well as Markarth played through. You don't have to own the two dungeon DLCs from this year to see the end of the story. But since these are interwoven with the overall plot, you will miss some facets of the story if you completely ignore the dungeons this year.
New Solo Arena and Update 28
In the new zone itself, of course, the familiar content offering from quests, world bosses, world events (mourning storms), shards of heaven and vaults awaits us again this time. But we also expect a completely new feature that fans of the Maelstrom Arena of the Orsinium DLC in particular should look forward to: Vateshran Hollows. The new solo arena first gives you access to three wings, which you can tackle in any order. But only when you have mastered all three areas of the arena, you get access to the final, fourth wing. According to Rich Lambert, the arena is not only about battles with new mechanics, but also puzzles. And as in the Maelstrom Arena, we can again earn special weapons in the fresh PvE challenges and compete with other players for the top spots on a leaderboard.
At the same time as the paid DLC, the Zenimax developers will be playing the free update 28 on the live server. With the update there will be the next improvements for the technical framework of the game to further optimize the performance (for example because buffs and debuffs are now processed more efficiently) and to improve the balance (keyword: Frost sticks). For the PvP queues, there will also be two registration options for random groups in the future: Solo and Group.
In addition, a new item system is planned, with which you can add non-manufacturable item sets that you have earned to your collection (like in a sticker book) and restore them at any time. There will be more specific information about this and all other features in the next few weeks.
DLC Markarth / Prolog-Quest release date now available!
The Markarth Story DLC and Update 28 will be released on PC / Mac and Stadia on November 2nd. The release on Playstation 4 and Xbox One will follow on November 10th. However, you can already start the free prologue quest series now. To do this, visit the crown shop as usual, start the associated quest, and off you go!
Skyrim's Forgotten Treasures and the Last Indrik Mount
According to Rich Lambert, that's coming antiques system introduced with Greymoor extremely well with many players. Much better than the developers had hoped. If you are one of the ambitious treasure hunters, you shouldn't do anything in the coming week (from September 23rd to October 5th, on all platforms). With "Skyrim's Forgotten Treasures", the developers are introducing a new in-game event in which the community can collectively unlock three reward levels with collectibles by digging up treasures. The rewards are cosmetic contents, a companion, a new home and a completely new type of collection item: the house guests!
But that's not the only event that's still coming up this year. Also planned are:
- Witches Festival (October 22nd to November 3rd)
- Celebrations of the Intrepid (November 25th to December 12th)
- New Year celebrations (December 21st to January 2nd, 2021)
In the course of these events you can again earn event tickets with which you can then get the final Indrik evolution: the purple Indrik. Yep, you read that right. After two years of Indrik development, collecting mounts will soon come to an end. Rich Lambert didn't want to tell us which feature the developers want to replace the Indrik with in the coming year. But what he did reveal: A lot of players have gotten all Indrik mounts so far, a lot more than you would probably assume. There are also players who have logged into the game every day since its launch in April 2014.
The Elder Scrolls Online on PS5 and Xbox Series
Finally, a preview of the start of the new generation of consoles. The people in charge at Zenimax had already revealed that TESO also on Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series should run. In the interview, we wanted to know from Rich whether this will be the case immediately after the launch of the consoles or at a later point in time. The answer: Yep, we can play The Elder Scrolls Online from day 1 on PS5 and the new Microsoft devices, but only in compatibility mode. The "Next Gen" update or the correct "Next Gen" client should be submitted at a later date.
