The Battle for the Shadowlands is open! The jailer makes his next move in patch 9.1 and attacks the Ardenwald and the winter queen. The end of the battle marks a phenomenal video in which Sylvanas and Tyrande finally cross their blades. But it’s about more than the life of the banshee queen, in the fight we also learn something about Nathanos.
Sylvanas and Nathanos – the unequal couple have been inseparable for a long time. Some saw in both a queen and her servant. Others, on the other hand, are still convinced that their relationship went much deeper. But before we dive into Sylvanas and Nathanos, let’s take a closer look at the latest video featuring the epic battle between the Banshee and Tyrande.
The clash of the titans
The duel we see in the video is terrific! Both elf ladies represent two opposing forces. They represent the fight between Zovaal and the moon goddess Elune. Night warrior Tyrande reaches the summit of Elune’s power in a battle with the Banshee Queen. Yes, this time the night elf puts everything on one card and is even ready to sacrifice her life for revenge on Sylvanas. We recommend that you watch the video with subtitles so you can fully understand the words Tyrande shouts in Darnassian battle. It is difficult to make out when the night warrior is herself and when Elune speaks from her.
Though it looks like Sylvanas is defeated by Tyrande, this fight is just another move in the Banschee Queen’s great game of intrigue. The duel was a ruse to push the night warrior into the abyss of madness. If Elune had not intervened personally later, Sylvanas’ mission to destroy Tyrande would even have been successful. The tear of the moon goddess was able to prevent the catastrophe.
The good bye
Sylvanas is not always as freezing as she likes to make us know. In the video we see a particularly exciting scene in which the banshee loses her composure for a few seconds. When Tyrande mentions the execution of Nathanos. Sylvans is surprised at the news that her most loyal servant is dead. The night warrior notices this and adds to her words that Sylvanas’ master (probably the jailer) has secrets from her.
At the end of the WoW novel “The Rise of the Shadows”, which connects the stories of BfA and Shadowlands, Sylvanas sends Nathanos away. Her orders are that he should wait for her in the Plaguelands. However, Nathanos’ reaction makes it clear that he knows exactly what fate lies ahead. As bitter as it is for him, he has to distract our heroes and thus buy his queen’s time so that she can fulfill her mission. At the pre-event of WoW Shadowlands Nathanos appeared for a short time as world boss at his old estate in the Eastern Plaguelands. He mocked the heroes of the Horde and Alliance and challenged them to battle. Finally, Tyrande strikes down the Dark Ranger.
Lies and deceit
Well, Sylvanas expected Nathanos to make a great sacrifice. Even if the banshee expected his death, she was sure he would follow her down the throat. However, since Nathanos has not appeared anywhere, she had to assume that he was still alive. Sylvanas and Nathanos share a long history that the Banshee Queen expected to be reunited in death. It seems that the jailer intercepted Nathanos’ soul, perhaps later using it as some sort of leverage against Sylvanas. This is what Steve Danuser, the Principal Narrative Designer at WoW, suggested in a recent interview. We also know from the quest series with Uther that the villain has a whole collection of damn souls. Even Sylvanas doesn’t know exactly where Zovaal keeps these battered souls.
However, the jailer keeps this secret chamber in Torghast locked for a good reason. Allegedly there is also the soul splinter of Sylvanas hidden there, which represents her good side. How the story of Sylvanas and Nathanos ends is still pending. Nevertheless, we can clearly see in the video how Sylvanas’ trust in the jailer is shaken for the second time. The Bashee queen already showed in Warcraft 3 how unforgiving she is when you cheat on her. It is extremely questionable that she will remain loyal to the jailer after the whole story with Anduin and Nathanos until the end.
The primus returns
Two more cut scenes from the game show us the return of the Primus and another epic battle between the Lords of Maldraxxus and Zovaal. We can free the Primus in the course of the quest series for Korthia from Torghast. In the second video we see that the primus can take on the jailer. This is not a big surprise, after all, the Primus beat Zovaal a long time ago. Without Anduin’s help, the jailer could not have won the seal of the Primus so easily. The big question is whether the Primus can stop the jailer one more time.
