The Banner Saga: Developers are apparently working on an MMO – Gamesaktuell
Stoic is currently looking for new employees and such job postings often give clues as to what the players can expect with the next project. The team behind the trilogy The Banner Saga Apparently wants to develop an MMO next.
New project relies on action and online functions
The sought-after "Combat Designer" must have developed a combat system for a fast action game and have experience with games-as-a-service titles and live games. Other job offers explicitly mention MMO and experience with online games. Stoic himself does not want to talk about the next game yet and only explains that something is coming. "Stoic continues to grow and is bigger than ever and we are embarking on a new project with new ambitions and demands," said Alex Thomas, Principal Creative Designer at Stoic. "We can't wait to tell more about it soon, and we hope you join us in a new world full of new stories to tell in a new game."
The information that there are fights for a fast-paced action game suggests that we can say goodbye to the tactical round-the-clock battles of the Banner Saga titles. And the fact that people are being sought who have experience with live and online games is actually also a pretty good indication that we can count on an online game. But this should tell many stories. Can we expect an MMORPG with action-packed battles?
In 2018 the last part of the Banner Saga trilogy will be released. The new project should therefore still be in a very early stage of development. So we will need a little patience before we learn more about it.
