The film starts of the week at a glance (KW 2)
WIDESCREEN presents the current cinema releases in the week from Thursday, January 9th to Wednesday, January 15th. The second week of cinema in the new year promises a lot of nerve-wracking tension: The thriller "Little Joe – Happiness is a business" with Emily Beecham and Ben Whishaw opens a dystopia in which a plant makes you happy – with fatal consequences. The German production "Free Land" deals with two police officers who are looking for two missing sisters shortly after the wall came down. And with "The Grudge" a horror remake of the Japanese classic comes to the cinema. Our recommendations are "Underwater" with Kristen Stewart and "Queen & Slim", a gripping drama starring Daniel Kaluuya ("Get Out") and newcomer Jodie Turner-Smith.
Underwater – It's awakened
The outbreak of an earthquake puts researchers in an underwater laboratory in a life-threatening emergency. To get to the surface, Norah (Kristen Stewart) and her colleagues have to leave the research center, but dangers lurk in the water, of which they have no idea.
Queen & Slim
Queens (Jodie Turner-Smith) and Slims (Daniel Kaluuya) first date turns into a nightmare when both victims of racist police violence and Slim kill the cop in question in self-defense. They manage to escape, and even though they are persecuted as murderers, their history becomes a symbol of racism.
