WIDESCREEN presents the current cinema releases in the week from Thursday, January 23 to Wednesday, January 29. Two new productions from Germany can be seen on the screen this week: on the one hand the comedy "The Wedding" with Til Schweiger, Samuel Finzi and Milan Peschel, on the other hand the drama "The Prelude" with Nina Hoss. A hot tip for fans of serious cinema is the French, socially critical drama "The Furious – Les Misérables". We have a special note this week for the documentary adaptation of the bestseller "The Secret Life of Trees" and "Jojo Rabbit", the current film by "Thor 3" director Taika Waititi.
The secret life of the trees
With his non-fiction book "The Secret Life of Trees" Peter Wohlleben wrote a plea for nature that was on the bestseller lists for months. The documentary not only shows the content of his book, but also accompanies the author on his forest tours and trips around the world.
Hitler boy Johannes (Roman Griffin Davis) discovers that his mother hides the Jewish girl Elsa (Thomasin McKenzie). Spontaneously, Jojo, whose imaginary friend Hitler is personal (Taika Waititi), would betray the Jewess to the Gestapo. But that would endanger his mother. So he comes to terms with the situation, gets to know Elsa and doubts the Nazi propaganda. Here you can read our review of "Jojo Rabbit".
