Dear windbenders and waterbenders (and everyone else), today is a fantastic day. Let's push the planned live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender from Netflix out of our minds and get back to basics: the original creators of the franchise want to continue the stories of Avatar and Korra.
Today is the day we have all been waiting for after the end of the series Avatar: The Last Airbender or The Legend of Korra: The creators of the franchise, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, founded the company Avatar Studios and work with Nickelodeon already on a first animated film. But that will certainly not have been all:
In the official announcement it says as follows:
As announced on Wednesday via ViacomCBS ‘Investor Day, Nickelodeon is establishing Avatar Studios, a new division to create original content from the universe, among other things animated series and films based on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. The original creators and producers Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will run the studio as Co-Chief Creative Officers. "
Accordingly, several films and series are even planned, which is not so absurd: After all, there are already official comics that continue the stories of the main characters from the Avatar verse.
Meanwhile, the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is still in production at Netflix, but the two creators got out there a while ago – maybe so that they could take care of Avatar Studios more. In any case, one thing is certain: 2021 belongs among other things to the Avatar verse, and I am happy to finally be able to pronounce this sentence.
