It took seven years, but now the second part of The Last of Us is finally released. We have already tested Naughty Dogs PS4-exclusive action adventure and awarded the highest rating. In our review, we strongly recommend that you have played the first part before you start with Part 2, but so that every gambler really comes into play directly, we have put together ten useful tips for beginners. Even people who have never faced a clicker come through the post-apocalypse unscathed. Among other things, you will find tips on weapon upgrades, different types of opponents or the correct behavior in the fight against infected and human enemies.

The best thing to do is to keep quiet.

Like the predecessor, The Last of Us: Part 2 (buy now for € 71.90) more leisurely and realistic than the Uncharted series, also developed by Naughty Dog. Instead of throwing yourself openly into the fight, you should rather be quiet. Sure, you can also look for direct confrontation and due to the massive gunplay, the battles are damn intense, but the opponents are always well armed and clearly outnumbered. If you fly up, they try to chase you out of hiding or to pinch you. It is therefore advisable to secretly take out a few opponents at least initially so that you don't get overrun when you unpack the pump gun.

Explore the world carefully

Anyone who explores the area will find many helpful things.

Most sections of The Last of Us 2 make it pretty clear where to go to get ahead, but those who stubbornly follow the obvious path will miss a lot. Take your time to search the surrounding buildings. There you will often find hidden Easter eggs, background information on the game world or simply ammunition and materials with which you can craft useful objects. Sometimes you even come across safes that contain items that can be used to upgrade Ellie's abilities or upgrade the weapons you carry. Of course, this is all pretty helpful. But be careful, you are not always alone in the buildings off the path. You can also meet infected and human enemies there.

Stability and firing frequency are important for weapons.

In the course of the game, you will unlock new skill bars and you can upgrade your weapons on workbenches if you have collected enough screws. As a beginner, however, you should face the problem that you do not really know which skills are really helpful. For Ellie, we therefore recommend first expanding the health bar and also expanding the listening mode. The listening mode lets you recognize the opponent's movement through walls. You should increase the stability and the firing frequency of the weapons. So you can aim more precisely, but also quickly fill your opponent's body with lead, even in hectic situations.

The world of The Last of Us: Part 2 is tricky. You are just enjoying the grandiose look and a little rest, but suddenly enemies are on your heels. So always be well prepared. Anyone who has to exchange empty weapons or craft medi-kits in the middle of a fight is just waiting to become the victim of dogs, humans or infected people. If you have survived a battle and grazed the battlefield for supplies, you should definitely use the rest to top up. Heal yourself, reload the weapons, exchange weapons and craft useful items such as medi-kits or Molotov cocktails. After all, you never know when you'll be attacked again, and caution is better than forbearance.

Use the size of the battlefield

Use the vast areas to withdraw from the battle and reposition yourself.

Yes, we have already urged you to take a creeping approach, but we are also realistic: At some point you will be discovered because you are too loud, overlook an opponent or otherwise act stupidly. That happens and then you have to fight. But then you shouldn't make the mistake of staying behind a cover. Whoever does this should hope that the relatives choose a pretty gravestone. Instead, take advantage of the size of the battlefield and keep moving. You can even flee and hide again and then strike again from the hidden. But even if you have not yet been discovered, you should use the area well. If you line up skillfully, you can often sneak past all your opponents without spilling a drop of blood.

Pay attention to the peculiarities of the infected

Don't get too close to bloaters and shamblers.

Fat children are harder to kidnap and fat infected people are not so easy to get around the corner – these are essential wisdom for life. The clickers in The Last of Us: Part 2 look scary, but as long as you're quiet, you don't have much to worry about. Just sneak up, pack and ram the knife into the mutant pear. However, if there are also runners present, you should make sure not to be seen. Otherwise the runners sound the alarm, the clickers draw your attention and suddenly it gets hectic and dangerous. Individual runners, on the other hand, can be switched off relatively easily in close combat. If you are seriously infected, such as bloaters or shamblers, you should keep your distance, as they secrete toxic spores. So keep moving and unpack the big guns when the fat boys have discovered you.

Lure thick chunks into the trap

Lures infected people and saves ammunition.

If you want to be a little more elegant against the heavy boys, you should definitely use traps. These can be easily crafted, but people like to forget them in the heat of the moment. Even traps that have not yet been upgraded do a lot of damage and knock a shambler off their socks. In order to defeat the creature, one would otherwise have to burn up some valuable cartridges that could perhaps be used better in the next fight. So use the listening mode, set traps and simply lure the nasty critters in. That leaves a huge mess, but it's also damn satisfying if the plan works.

Effective action against stalkers

Lures stalkers and sets them ablaze.

The most annoying infected people in the game are actually the stalkers. The nimble beasts hide and try to ambush you. If a stalker attacks you, you can be sure that shortly afterwards more of the beasts will appear. However, the stalkers are attracted by noises and you have to take advantage of this to effectively eliminate the crap. If you know the stalkers are sneaking around, you throw an item in an easily visible place and wait for the stalkers to come crawling. Then you throw Molotov cocktails on the infected and there is peace again.

Play enemies against each other

In general, one should often throw bottles or stones skillfully. So you can briefly stun runners or people or you distract a dog that has picked up your trail. Particularly nice: If you are in an area where both people and infected people are present, you can play them off against each other. If you throw an object close to human enemies, the infected are attracted and attack. You can then either wait and eliminate the remaining enemies or simply sneak past the fight.

Adjust setting options to your own playing style

Do not target a fixed level of difficulty, but adjust the game to your style.

If you don't quite get along despite our tips, you should definitely take a look at the settings for the level of difficulty. There are not only five normal levels of difficulty from very easy to very difficult to choose from, you can adjust the difficulty individually in several points to your own playing style. For example, if you think that the fights are too easy, but the ammunition is always too scarce, you can increase the difficulty of the fight, but at the same time you can stop finding more ammunition and crafting materials in the area. With the right attitude, everyone gets exactly the gaming experience they want.
