While the PS5 in Germany has only been available in stores since Thursday, players in some other countries have been able to enjoy the new Sony console since last week. In addition to the USA, this also includes Japan, where the PlayStation 5 has been available since November 12th. The first sales figures are now also known, so that we can make an initial assessment of how the launch in the land of the rising sun went.
According to a recent report by Famitsu magazine, Sony was able to sell around 118,000 copies of the PS5 on the Japanese market in the first four days after the launch. That's quite a respectable number when you consider that Japan continues to be dominated by Nintendo and, above all, the Switch. Especially in direct comparison with the competition in the form of the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, the PlayStation 5 cuts (buy now ) very good. Microsoft's NextGen console sold "only" around 21,000 units in the same period – both models added together. Unfortunately, it is not known which model has sold more often.
