In the first longer trailer for Fast & Furious 9, Han (Sung Kang), who was believed to be dead, returns to Dominic Toretto’s crew. This gets to do with master thief and assassin Jakob, Dominic’s biological brother, who acts on behalf of cyber terrorist Cipher. As usual, everything escalates and explodes. And on top of that, there are flying cars this time.
The Fast & Furious series is known for its “higher, faster, further” mentality: With each part, the action becomes more bombastic, the vehicles more futuristic and the egos bigger and always, if you think the last part is about exaggeration the next offshoot has already reached its zenith. This is also the case with Fast & Furious 9. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his chosen family (including Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris) have to deal with Dominic’s younger brother Jakob (John Cena), who has never been mentioned before. Not only is he the most extreme super killer, but he is also commissioned by Toretto’s opponent Cipher (Charlize Theron).
In addition to the meeting of the Torettos, F9 also features flying cars for the first time – with rocket propulsion and all the trimmings. In its predecessors, numerous super weapons and highly developed gadgets were introduced without the films drifting completely into the science fiction genre. This time, however, it really looks like the series will make it into space.
But even with the remarkable picture of Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson heading towards the stratosphere, the trailer apparently hasn’t shown us enough. In addition to all these further developments, F9 also offers a reunion with Queenie Shaw (Helen Mirren), the mother of Deckard (Jason Statham) and Owen (Luke Evans). And this time she’s finally getting her own action scene.
The drifting lady is one of the highlights of the trailer, but for franchise fans there is probably another return at the center: Han Lue (Sung Kang), believed dead after an attack by Deckard Shaw, has apparently risen from the dead to join Dom again assisting a mission. How exactly the charming street racer survived, we will then on July 8, 2021 Experienced. Fast & Furious 9 starts in German cinemas.
