Netflix has released the first pictures of Yennefer from Season 2 of the Netflix series The Witcher. These seem to indicate a connection to the computer game The Witcher 3.
Hang the second season of the series The Witcher and the computer game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt together? New pictures could suggest this.
Danger! Here are potential spoilers!
The Wild Hunt plays a big role in both The Witcher novels and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The group of horsemen is mistaken for ghosts and supposed to be an omen of war. They keep popping up and raiding villages. As it turns out, however, there is a group of elves who travel to other worlds to look for slaves there. Because of their descent from the "ancients", they become aware of Ciri and hunt her down.
In the game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings we learn that Yennefer was kidnapped by the Wild Hunt, presumably to get at Ciri. Ciri is meanwhile on the run and travels different worlds, as we then find out in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
In the new pictures for Season 2 of the series The Witcher we see Yennefer in chains. She is also injured, probably from the Battle of Sodden, where she mysteriously disappeared at the end of Season 1. Was she captured by the Wild Hunt? Since the elves travel through dimensional portals, this would explain the sudden disappearance of Yennefer.
There could of course be a completely different explanation as to why Yennefer is trapped. We'll have to wait a while before we get the answer. Because currently the shooting of season 2 of The Witcher is still taking place and we will only see the new episodes sometime in 2021.
