Today, March 23rd, Half-Life: Alyx, the VR-exclusive intermediate story of the iconic shooter series, is released, which is located before the second part. Our test on Half-Life: Alyx can now be found on the homepage! However, the game has more to offer than a well-made history. In fact, the title reveals nothing less than that Half-Life 3 is almost certainly in development. We'll tell you why here.
It probably goes without saying, but this news contains most massive spoiler to a plot twist and the end of Half-Life: Alyx. If you want to enjoy the game, you should not read on or watch the video that we have embedded in this news. Last warning!
That's why Half-Life: Alyx leads to Half-Life 3 – SPOILER!
You are still here? Well, let's go. At the end of Half-Life: Alyx, Alyx is in the core of a Combine prison, where she suspects the sleeping Gordon Freeman. However, instead of the scientist, the G-Man awaits them. It allows her a glimpse into the future that reveals her father Eli's fatal fate at the end of Half-Life 2: Episode 2.
But the future is not a one-way street if you have the powers of the G-Man: it enables Alyx to prevent her father's death. However, this gift comes at a price. Instead of Gordon, who has fallen out of favor with the G-Man and his clients, Alyx is now involuntarily contracted as an employee. Her father lives, but she herself disappears from this newly created timeline.
In the last seconds of the game, we slip into the role of Gordon Freeman himself, who gets his iconic crowbar in his hand from Eli, who is desperate for the loss of his daughter. The symbolism is clear: Gordon is back and the cliffhanger of yore has been replaced by a new one that leads directly to the next part of the Half-Life series. And we bet everything that this part has a pretty "3" in the name.
What do you think about the end of Half-Life: Alyx? Do you now see Half-Life 3 as confirmed? Let us know in the comments! Some time ago we reported a statement by the G-Man's voice actor that strongly indicated Half-Life 3. And Valve recently even officially said that they wanted to continue the Half-Life series in one way or another, which further underlines the relevance of the end of Half-Life: Alyx.
