In WoW Shadowlands not only new areas, dungeons and raids await us, but also lots of exciting stories. In the realm of the dead, many well-known heroes and villains are waiting for us. We took a closer look at the dialog texts from Shadowlands-Alpha and selected some interesting information about the story for you. Caution spoilers!
In the novel Shadows Rising we learn that Sylvanas' followers chase Bwonsamdi, the Loa of Death. It appears that another loa was targeting the power of Bwonsamdi – Mueh'zala, the sand roll's death loa. Only with the help of Queen Talanji and Vol'jin's mind can Bwonsamdi escape death. In WoW Shadowlands, Bwonsamdi and Vol'jin turn the tables and the ex-warchief sits in the shadow lands on the heels of the Loas, who cheated on him and whispered the name of the Banshee on his deathbed.
Because unlike Bwonsamdi, Mueh'zala has turned away from the trolls and his role as Loa and has allied himself with the jailer. His reasons for this betrayal, like that of Sylvanas, are initially in the dark. However, the intrigue and the associated plan worked out perfectly in BfA. Most of the Loa are dead and trapped in the Ardenwald, where they have only a small fraction of their original power. Vol'jin cannot free the loa from its predicament, but he can rise to a loa himself. To do this, however, he must first fulfill his pact with Bwonsamdi and ensure that Bwonsamdi rises to the only loa of the dead. In the dungeon "The Other Side", together with Vol'jin, we challenge the treacherous Mueh'zala. According to the following dialogue text, Mueh'zala is subject to change, but it remains to be seen whether the Loa will be finally defeated.
"Azeroth is in ruins … and all because of one … little … whisper to a dying warchief.
What? No … de whisper dat told me to make Sylvanas warchief … it be you?
You played your part perfectly, troll. And I would have tortured you for eternity … if not for someone's intervention.
I be hearin 'enough! I want ya ta be knowin 'sometin' before I destroy ya, Mueh'zala.
Dere only be room for one loa o 'death.
And it be Bwonsamdi. "
The fate of the Loa and the Wild Gods
As already mentioned, a particularly exciting story awaits us in the Ardenwald. In addition to Tyrande's search for the redemption of her people, a large part of the story revolves around Cenarius, the Loa and the Wild Gods. The mystical forest is the last refuge for the souls of Elune's son and the animal spirits. Most of the Wild Gods died in the War of the Ancestors in the fight against the Burning Legion, others fell victim to the Emerald Nightmare and the Old Gods. In Battle for Azeroth, Zul, the traitor, thinned the Loa pantheon.
The Prophet trapped the mighty Rezan, the king of the Loa, and then made many other Loa come to an abrupt end. In the Ardenwald, both the Loa and the Wild Gods perform a new task. Some dream of rebirth, while others take the initiative themselves. Rezan is determined to help Vol'jin rise to a loa. How exactly remains a secret for now. Which role in the whole story the winter queen, the mistress of the Ardenwald, and Ysera, whose soul also rests in the forest, also remains a secret for now.
Although we know very little about the winter queen, a short dialogue gives us some exciting information about her disposition. She appears to be a neutral figure, neither good nor bad. She speaks to Vol'jin in the Ardenwald and thereby reveals a secret that has it all. According to the queen, the soul of a loa is dormant inside the former war chief. At least that explains why Rezan is so interested in Vol'jin's rebirth. We do not know which Loa it is. In their conversation, winter queen Vol'jin reveals that he has to take a dangerous test in the shadow lands to wake the spirit of his inner loa. This can succeed, but it can also end with his final death. The winter queen addressed the following words to Vol'jin:
"I thought I sensed something special about your spirit. You have a loa within you … waiting to be reborn.
I cannot promise that you will survive … or what form of loa you will become. But I shall allow you a pod to be reborn.
Life be full o 'mysteries. I be learnin 'ta embrace dem and see what happens next.
Tyrande's revenge campaign finally leads the night warrior to the shadow lands. In the Ardenwald, the leader of the night elves searches for Elune, whom she hopes to find with the help of Cenarius. After her transformation into a night warrior, Tyrande is troubled by doubts about the kindness of the moon goddess who had apparently left the Kaldorei. Their search for redemption and the origin of the night warriors leads them on a dangerous path. Sooner or later our heroes end up in Torghast with Tyrande. Inside the tower, she learns what happened to the souls of the dead night elves who were burned in Teldrassil. The fate of the dead Kaldorei drives her almost insane and in the grand finale we have to save Tyrande. Here are individual steps from the Tyrande scenario:

Many more old heroes and bad guys
The realm of the dead is the terminus for many old heroes and villains who only recently or many years ago died. The most prominent are Kael'thas, Kel'thuzad, Lady Vashj and even the legendary Paladin Uther Lichtbringer. They all play a major role in different areas. While Kael'thas initially welcomes our heroes as hosts in Ravendreth, Kel'thuzad appears as the villain who causes a lot of chaos in Maldraxxus. A little later, the former prince of Quel'thalas changes sides and stands in the way of the Nathria raid as a boss opponent. Lady Vashj used her time in the Shadow Lands to become a real baroness. Unlike in the past, she doesn't appear as an opponent in WoW Shadowlands, but as an ally.
The most exciting story awaits us in the bastion. There we meet the legendary hero Uther Lichtbringer. This paladin was once the mentor of Arthas Menethil, who left the path of light in Warcraft 3 and later became the death knight and Lich King. In WoW Shadowlands, Uther appears to our heroes as an angelic Kyrian who protects Oribos and the bastion. The interesting thing is that there are two models from Uther. On the one hand as a radiant angel, on the other hand as a sinister scorn. We don't know the story behind this fall. However, we are curious what fate awaits one of Azeroth's most famous heroes in the Shadow Lands.
