We have known for some time that a new part of the Bioshock range is in development. But really concrete information about the content, the features or the story has not yet been disclosed. Most recently, we learned from a job posting in April 2021 that the title will likely become an open-world RPG. Now the developer studio Cloud Chamber has published another job advertisement in which they are looking for a senior gameplay programmer. In the details on the spot it is clear that existing systems are to be adapted to the new Unreal Engine 5. Although nothing has been confirmed by this, there is a high probability that Bioshock 4 will use the new engine from Epic Games.

Unreal Engine 5 was announced last year and early access of the new engine started this week. The actual publication should take place at the beginning of 2022. In addition to Bioshock 4, some other titles will also rely on Unreal Engine 5, including the new offshoot of the Gears series and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.

The new engine is currently still in the initial phase. So we will probably have to wait a while for the release of the new offshoot of the Bioshock series. More information on the content of the title may be available at the upcoming E3.
