With FIFA 21, Electronic Arts presented its soccer simulation this year at EA Play 2020. The release will take place on October 9th – a bit later than in previous years. One feature is particularly high on the fans' wish list: Crossplay, cross-platform gaming. In the past few days, EA has already announced this feature for some of its games, such as Star Wars: Squadrons. Crossplay has been live in Need for Speed Heat since an update released a few days ago. What about FIFA 21? EA comments on this function in a FAQ article.
FIFA 21 is coming: Electronic Arts had already announced the new soccer simulation in advance of EA Play 2020 and finally released the first trailer for the show – we have included the video mix with the soccer simulation Madden NFL 21 below this message. EA did not reveal many details about the announcement, only this much: FIFA 21 will be released on October 9 – a little later than in previous years. A roadmap published on Twitter shows that more information will follow in August.
The publisher wants to provide insights into gameplay, career and volta mode in the month after next. There are also news about the Pro Clubs and the Ultimate Team. Even if tangible details are still missing, the EA is already accepting pre-orders: FIFA 21 appears in a Standard, Champions and Ultimate edition. As can be seen, among other things, from the Twitter reactions of the fans, one feature is particularly high on the wish list: Crossplay, cross-platform gaming. Thus, for example, PS4 players could compete against users on PC or Xbox One.
In the past few days, EA has already released the crossplay feature for some of its games, such as Star Wars: Squadrons. The racing game Need for Speed Heat learned the function with the last update. So far, it does not seem to be certain whether Crossplay will also come for FIFA 21. In one FAQ article has EA Commented on this topic: "Allowing our players to play FIFA against other players – no matter which platform – is one of our long-term goals. At this point we have no news about this, but we are still investigating the integration". (buy now for € 59.99)
As soon as there is an update on this topic, the developers want to submit the information. However, EA does not specifically address FIFA 21 in the statement. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that crossplay is only possible with an upcoming FIFA. We will keep you up to date in our news area. FIFA 21 is released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. A legacy edition without gameplay innovations has been announced for Nintendo Switch. Console players who buy FIFA 21 on PS4 or Xbox One will receive a free upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X. The new consoles are announced for the end of the year.
