WoW: Less experience in dungeons

Update: The German patch notes for the WoW hotfixes from October 27th are now available. We have updated the message accordingly. Original: Community Manager Kaivax announced it in the official WoW forum, and it went online at the same time, the hotfix for World of Warcraft, with which, among other things, the amount of experience you get in dungeons was changed. Original message from October 27th:
Community manager Kaivax answered last night in the official forum from World of Warcraft (buy now 15.00 € ) to say: With a hotfix, the developers have adjusted the amount of experience on the live servers that you can get in the dungeons. This set is now standardized and no longer changes with the group size. The fixed amount corresponds to the experience value that you previously received in the respective dungeon with a full 5-player group.

Kaivax also explains the reason for this change: When the developers were balancing the dungeon experience for the pre-patch, they had full groups in mind. However, players took advantage of the pre-patch changes and dungeon scaling to develop extreme level strategies with smaller groups. Dungeons should be worthwhile in terms of the experience gained, but should not completely overshadow other options such as quests.

Blizzard has also released the official patch notes for last night's hotfixes. As soon as the official German translation is online, we will of course update the section.

      • The Azerite trait "Igniting Tongue" will now properly activate when "Flametongue Weapon" is active on your weapon.

Dungeons & Raids

  • Players will now get the same amount of experience in dungeons by default regardless of group size.
    • Developer Comment: The experience gained will now default to the amount of experience that player characters previously received while part of a group of 5 players. So far, the experience received has been based on the maximum group size. A loophole when claiming objectives combined with the changes to the scaling of dungeons in the wake of the prep patch enabled unwanted level-up mechanics that gave smaller groups a significant advantage. We want dungeons to be worthwhile, but we want them to serve as an alternative to quests and other sources of experience without dwarfing them.


  • Characters who have not yet completed the Darkshore introductory quests can now meet Anduin Wrynn in the throne room again to hand in their quests.
