Each pact tells a different story in Shadowlands. However, the adventures are about to begin. All heroes start in Oribos and the first chapters of the pact campaign are largely played out in the gullet, where we have to complete various tasks before we can dive into the main story. The respective pact stories stand for themselves, but they overlap at certain points.
The Shadowlands: The Adventure Begins!
As already mentioned, the leaders of the pacts send us down the throat first. There we meet Ve'nari. The mediator gives us the soul keeper with whom we can save some souls from the gullet. Ve'nari is also helping us find Baine Bloodhoof in Torghast. But it does not help us out of good will, but always demands something in return. For Stygia and all sorts of dubious artifacts, she even runs the risk of being discovered. Ve'nari explains that our relationship is strictly business, but she does show real concern for us at times. Perhaps the enigmatic mediator hopes that one day she can leave the gullet and return to Oribos as a powerful woman.
All roads lead to Torghast
The second big common denominator in all Pact stories is Highlord Bolvar Fordragon. He calls all the heroes in Oribos to help him free the kidnapped faction leaders from the clutches of the jailer. His quests usually lead us to the jailer's dark dungeon. Finally, in Torghast, we come across a mysterious prisoner who calls himself the Runecutter. This being has lost its memory and we are helping it to regain its memories bit by bit. With every memory the rune mason gains strength and can at least at the beginning break away from the first fetter. As a thank you, the rune cutter forges mighty armor for us, which gives us great power.
After our return to Maldraxxus we learn that the treacherous houses are still besieging the seat of the Primus. Our heroes solemnly swear an oath to protect the sanctuary of the necrolords and to restore Maldraxxus to her old strength. We fight back the enemy forces, but the fight for the seat of the Primus and his secrets continues.
Baroness Vashj's plan
To strengthen the defenses of the necrolords, Baroness Vashj plans to take an enemy necropolis. We are building a powerful army of survivors from the House of Eyes and renegades from other houses. United under one banner, the army takes the Zerekriss necropolis. Scouring the necropolis, we find a powerful artifact – the lost bracers of the Primus.
The necrolords have learned that the House of Constructs is continuing its attack on the bastion. Alexandros Mograine volunteers to support the Kyrians. After defeating the enemy forces in the Temple of Courage, the Necrolords forge an alliance with the Kyrians. Then we accompany Mograine on a spiritual journey. The virtuous Kyrians impressed Alexandros so much that he regrets that the judge brought his soul to Maldraxxus and not to the Kyrians. Xandria, the Paragon of Courage, tries to help, explaining to Mograine that the Kyrians must let go of their memories in order to fulfill their sacred duty. However, Alexandros draws his strength from his memories and the strong bond to his family. Mograine then accepts his fate and prepares for the battle against the Marquis Gharmal and the House of Constructs.
The Scourge of Quel'Thalas
Alexandros Mograine and Xandria bring Gharmal and his house to their knees. Between the margrave's belongings we discover the coat of Primus, together with some canisters with anima from Revendreth. A short time later we find out that the Lich Lady Ouix'Ara is up to mischief in the realm of the Venthyr. We follow her to Revendreth, where the prosecutor greets us. The Venthyr introduces us to Kael'thas Sunstrider, as the blood elf is supposed to help us take down the traitorous Maldraxxi and their leader. In the fight against Ouix'Ara, we find out that the Lich Kel'Thuzad was behind the attack on Revendreth. After we uncovered and thwarted the conspiracy from the House of Rituals and Revendreth, we capture the shoulder pieces of the Primus, which further increases the reputation of the Necrolords.
The house of rituals
It is now high time to take the battle to the House of Rituals. A lich named Balmedar offers his help to the necrolords and smuggles our heroes into Sin'dane's necropolis. But Kel'Thuzad is prepared for the attack and immediately throws the intruders into prison. In the dark dungeon of the fortress, we first try to find out more about Kel'Thuzad's plans. Disguised as the acolyte of the house, we help the lich prepare a special ritual. He's no longer making a big secret of the fact that he worked behind Sin'dane's back for the jailer all the time. His ultimate goal is to unleash the Maw's power over Maldraxxus. We manage to sabotage Kel'Thuzad's ritual, but we're too late to warn the mistress of the house.
After the coup, Kel'Thuzad arrested Margravine Sin'dane and took control of the House of Rituals in her place. The Necrolords and the Venthyr forge an alliance and attack the Lich's fortress. The necrolords are victorious! But before we can deal the fatal blow to Kel'Thuzad, the jailer's henchmen appear and kidnap the lich into the gullet. Margravine Sin'dane is grateful for her rescue and gives us the staff of Primus. This is the last part of the regalia of the former leader of the necrolords. The return of the artifacts inspires all of the Maldraxxi and the once divided army reunites under one banner.
