WoW Patch 9.1 introduces flying in Shadowlands. But how long will it be before we can actually take our mounts into the skies of the Shadowlands after the update is released? After all, the associated scout success is linked to the conclusion of the pact campaign – and it could be timegated …

When WoW Patch 9.1 appears, we can also fly in the Shadowlands – but not immediately. As in previous WoW expansions, there is also another pathfinder success for Shadowlands, the conclusion of which is linked to our flight license. While we don't have to farm a reputation or do other grind-heavy tasks this time around, it might still be a while before we can get our flight mounts into the skies of the Shadowlands.

The WoW developers announced a while ago that we would unlock flying in Shadowlands by completing the pact campaign. So far, however, the individual chapters of the pact campaign were linked to the fame level of the pacts, in other words: Whoever wanted to play the next part of the campaign had to have reached a certain fame level, which in turn was unlocked week after week. Only when we reached fame level 22 were we allowed to play the eighth chapter of the pact campaign, which was initially the final.

Accordingly, we will probably have to wait quite a while before we can complete the pact campaign in patch 9.1 and achieve the Boy Scout success. Because Senior Game Designer Jeremy Feasel and Technical Director Frank Kowalkowski have in an episode of the podcast The Starting Zone reveal that with Patch 9.1 we will get a total of 40 more new fame levels. These, in turn, will probably also be activated gradually on a weekly basis.

We assume that the WoW developers will, as before, link the individual chapters of the pact campaign to the achievement of a certain level of fame. Probably there is the first chapter from fame level 40 and the further sections then staggered per week. This means that we may have to wait a few weeks after the release of Patch 9.1 to unlock the Pathfinder achievement for Shadowlands. Players had to wait a total of eight weeks for Fame Level 22 – and depending on how many chapters the next section of the Pact campaign has, we will probably have to expect a similar wait for flying in the Shadowlands.
