Blizzard has once again taken on the plunder function with the latest WoW: Shadowlands alpha build. The developers have removed the option that players can turn off looting. Instead, there is now a new restriction.
Looting in the WoW expansion Mists of Pandaria was one of many small but fine quality-of-life adjustments that many WoW players today hardly want to do without. Since then we have been able to plunder the loot of all enemies at once within a certain radius without clicking on them one after the other. This not only saves time, but also guarantees that we don't leave an important quest item or a rare loot somewhere.
Shadowlands: Looting (not) for everyone
The developers have this looting function during the Alpha of the upcoming WoW expansion Shadowlands but adjusted again. Blizzard initially added an option for players that could completely disable looting. The function that briefly offered players more flexibility in looting is no longer available.
Instead, the developers decided to only unlock the loot in the future once a character has reached level 8. Before that, we have to individually relieve all enemies of their prey. What is the reason for the decision remains unclear – Blizzard has not yet made any official statements. Vanion suspects that the developers want to ensure that new players do not feel irritated by glittering opponents lying around, or are surprised that individual opponents no longer loot once they have looted an opponent in a group. If this is actually the intention of the developers, it also explains why the surface looting is unlocked at level 8 – because with our character we are still on the tutorial island, which should gently introduce us to the individual mechanics of the game.
Still, Blizzard could have left the option of switching looting on or off as needed – or what do you think? Write us your opinion in the comments!
