Of the total of six areas of WoW Shadowlands, Oribos lies exactly in the middle of the split zones and is the first port of call for all souls. Here the judge decides in which area of the Shadowlands the souls migrate. Oribos is also a place where dark shapes exchange and negotiate about anima. Anima is the soul essence that we already met in Torghast.
In the official preview of Oribos we learn more about the shadowlands and how their residents tick. When you arrive in Oribos, you learn that the judge can no longer fulfill her task and that many souls are doomed to wander into the gullet. The judge fell asleep. Our heroes are of course the first to escape the throat and then start in Bastion. Later you will have the opportunity to get to Oribos through portals in the vestibules of Eternity in Bastion or in Stolzsturzweiler in Revendreth. This is still being worked on on the Alpha servers.
The residents of Oribos
The servants are enigmatic beings, created to care for the Eternal City of Oribos, and to ensure that the judge can perform her duties without interruption. Her decisions are based on "Providence", the belief that the judge in her infinite wisdom has devised a plan for the Shadow Lands to follow.
Each employee is assigned to one of three paths and works for providence. The administrators are responsible for the continued functioning and stability of Oribos. They take care of the judge's needs and serve the municipal business. The wise scholars have the knowledge of the Eternal City. The Honored Voice that speaks for the eternally silent judge is also chosen from these circles. The protectors are as stoic as they are relentless and form a militia that can defend Oribos and keep the city in order.
The mediators come from a nameless kingdom of the shadow lands and can naturally locate anima, even in the current drought. Seeking to help incoming mortals in Oribos, they offer their expertise in acquiring raw materials and manufacturing useful goods. The mediators are cunning and adaptable, so they keep their true intentions to themselves. One thing is clear: you can offer a wide range of exotic goods and valuable services … if the price is right. In Torghast you occasionally meet a mediator who provides you with powerful bonuses in exchange for Anima.
The stream of souls
The stream of souls flows right through Oribos and carries with it all the mortal souls that come to the shadow lands. Although the judge should actually judge her and then send her to her deserved life in the hereafter, all souls – no matter whether noble or malicious – end up in the throat.
Ring of Destiny
As mortals now roam the shadow lands, Oribos mediators attract from all realms of death who sell their goods in the hall of curiosities. Like the shelter cities in Azeroth, Oribos offers all the services an adventurer needs. These include professional trainers (in the hall of forms), a bank (in the hall of custody) and salespeople for PvP. You also have access to barbers, which will offer new options for your character's appearance in a future alpha update.
Ring of Transfer
Though isolated for a long time due to the effects of the animation drought, the Eternal City has reopened its gates. Travelers can now freely enter and exit Oribos through portals and the flight master's services. From here, players can travel to the bastion's Elysian fields, the gladiator arenas of Maldraxxus, the ethereal Ardenwald, the Gothic towers of Revendreth and the horrors of the maw.
There will also be portals to Orgrimmar and Stormwind for goblets at the entrance to Oribos, so that you can return to the realm of the living and take care of open issues there.
The judge's chamber
The judge sits in her sacred chamber high above Oribos and has judged every mortal soul that comes to the shadow lands from the beginning of time. But now the souls are no longer brought to their deserved fate, but flow past the slumbering judge directly into the horrors of the throat. Desperate officials have tried unsuccessfully to solve this riddle, and some of them are beginning to lose their unshakable confidence in Providence.
