Microsoft has now revealed all the important technical details about the Xbox Series S. Accordingly, it has an AMD RDNA 2 GPU with 20 control units that run at 1.565 GHz. The AMD Zen 2 is used as the processor, but it has a slightly lower clock rate than the Xbox Series X.
The first technical details about the Xbox Series S appeared at the first leak or at the latest when the reveal video was published. The official announcement from Microsoft followed recently. In the meantime, the manufacturer has even published a detailed overview of the hardware components used, which should actually answer all outstanding questions.
As already suspected, the cheaper model of the NextGen console gets by with a slightly smaller SSD hard drive. This has a storage capacity of 512 gigabytes – half of the hard drive that is used in the Xbox Series X. (buy now ) is used. A look at the processor, however, has a little surprise in store: In principle, the same CPU (AMD Zen 2) is installed as in the more expensive model. The only difference is the slightly lower clock frequency of 3.6 GHz. The AMD RDNA 2 GPU with 20 control units that run at 1.565 GHz takes care of the graphics. The GPU brings 4 TFLOPS of power with it, which is of course significantly less compared to the 12.15 TFLOPS of the "big sister". The working memory of the Xbox Series S is "only" 10 instead of 16 gigabytes of GDDR6 RAM. Here is the full list for comparison:
The Xbox Series S, like the Xbox Series X, will be launched on November 10, 2020 and will cost 299 euros. You can place pre-orders for the NextGen console from Microsoft at participating retailers from September 22nd.
